I met Ivan when I worked at Kroger's. He would come through my line and tease and joke. We became good friends. After I retired my husband and I would meet Ivan for lunch. We always had a great time with him. Ivan was a good and kind man. We will miss him so much.

We mourn the loss of our shipmate and our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Ivan was a great sailor and a fine Gunners Mate, he will forever be remembered for his service to his country and his dedication to defending America's freedom.

He served with distinction aboard the USS Bausell DD-845 and will be remembered and honored at our ship's memorial service at the World War II museum in July of 2017.

After the memorial service, his name will be added to the permanent duty roster os the USS Bausell and he will forever be remembered.

Oh, what a huge and tragic loss. Ivan was one of the great ones, a very bright light. Ivan, they just don't make them like you anymore... classy, kind, generous, humble, honest, smart, brave, loyal, civilized. A true gentleman. I will miss you greatly. And to my dear friend on your journey home, I wish you fair winds and following seas and long may your big jib draw!
