Memories & Candles
I also became aware of David's passing by way of the Oak Hills Alumni Newsletter. (Class of 72). I remember David and the rest of the Upchurch family growing up in a little Episcopal church in Fernbank/Sayler Park. He and I were acolytes together and I remember him as a young guy who was quiet and serious yet quick to smile. As Ive read the many condolences it is clear that he lived his life with a strong sense of

I just heard about Mr. Upchurch's passing in the OHHS Alumni news. "Mr. Church" was, by far, my favorite teacher from my Delhi Jr High days. I have great memories from doing stats for him when he coached boys basketball, and as a student in his World History class. I considered him a great friend back then, and am very sad to hear of his passing. My prayers and condolences to his family.

Prayers go out to the Upchurch family. I met him when my son was a student at Newport Middle School. He was always kind and caring. The kids were very fond of him as well as the parents. Rest in Peace

It was a pleasure to work for Dave at Newport Middle School. He truly enjoyed his time there and students sensed that. Thank you Dave, Ken Eckert

My thoughts and prayers to Delores. A truly great lady and the mother of a man who truly did "make a difference" on his journey through this life.

Mr. Upchurch was one of my favorite teachers at Delhi Jr. High when I took his Ancient History class in 84-85. Peace and comfort to all who will miss him.

Words can't explain what a great teacher and person Mr. Upchurch was. I too was a First bell classmate in his class in 78-79 school year. I will never forget his extra credit questions he gave out on his essay tests. Boy were they hard, but I will never ever in life forget who played the Lone Ranger in film as long as I live....Clayton Moore!! RIP we love ya Mr. Upchurch!!
